The rise of eCommerce and eRetail is not only accelerating the CEP market in B2C, but also among B2B shipping. Providers are looking for new innovative solutions as customers aim at higher utilization rate of their service technicians. A solution on the rise is in-van delivery, i.e. using the boot of a service van as a drop-off point.
According to experts, service technicians spend in average 2 hours/ day on collecting and returning spare parts needed to execute the on-site maintenance of machines. Delivering (usually during the night) in the boot of a van allows service providers to increase utilization rates and to provide a speedy maintenance in case of critical machine breakdowns.
Different type of solution providers, mainly with automotive expertise, discovered the trend above and are piloting or have their solutions already in operation. Such solutions are usually retrofittable, multi-brand solutions leveraging Bluetooth to communicate between the vehicle and smartphone. The solution allows customers to provide access to their vehicle in a specific timeframe with encrypted data transfer for delivery companies.
